In college and feeling depressed and anxious?
You’re not alone.
Welcome to Facing Mental Health for Students.
Mental health issue levels in college students has been rising for several years. Anxiety and depression are serious illnesses that, if left unaddressed, can be detrimental. I was lucky because I grew up in a household where mental illness was something talked about regularly. I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression a year ago in the spring of 2018.
The purpose of this blog is to raise that awareness about mental health in college students and bring to light possible resources. This blog is not treatment for mental health, and if you’re in need of immediate help, seek help from your local medical professional.
This blog will explore the reasons why college students are experiencing more mental health issues than ever before.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Health, three fourths of mental illnesses start by age 24, the prime age range for college students. Since there has been such an increase in mental illness in the past ten years, this has been something universities have had to address and help with. Sara Oswalt, lead researcher of a study done on mental health and college students says,
“…If mental health problems aren’t addressed, success in school is jeopardized.”

If you’re in college and these issues come to a point where you need further help, a great resource would be to look at what your university provides. They are there to help you succeed.
